Renesas Electronics Introduces Buck-Boost DC/DC Converters with Ultra-Low Quiescent Current Suitable for Powering Sensors, MCUs, Wireless Devices and Other Components

TOKYO, Japan, October 13, 2020 – Renesas Electronics Group (TSE: 6723), a global supplier of semiconductor solutions, today announced the ISL9122A, a flexible buck-boost switching regulator supporting bypass mode, which provides Ultra-low quiescent current (IQ) for powering sensors, microcontrollers (MCUs), wireless devices and other system components. The ISL9122A supports 1.8V to 5.5V battery power supply, which can extend the battery life of smart IoT devices powered by coin cells, lithium batteries and multi-series alkaline battery packs. Target applications include wireless headsets, fitness devices, smart watches, water and gas meters, portable medical devices, and various battery-powered smart IoT devices.

The ISL9122A buck-boost switching regulator features an I2C interface with programmable 25mV steps for dynamic voltage scaling (DVS) to optimize system power consumption. The regulator can output up to 5.375V to maximize the performance of RF-enabled IoT devices over the entire battery voltage range. Its PFM and PWM functions maximize efficiency over the entire output current range. In forced PWM mode, the regulator always maintains a switching frequency of 2.5MHz to improve system EMI performance.
